Found Panorama

This should be viewed large and on black. Or, even better, at original size.

This is a panorama I took several years ago when I visited the Galapagos Islands with my sister. I rediscovered the makings of the pano last night while cleaning up some files; I had completely forgotten about taking this.

At the time I think I knew I was in a place that would make a beautiful pano, but I had neither the knowledge or the software to do it properly. Today I’ve at least got the software :). I’m really pleased with the way it turned out for a handheld, point and shoot, automatic exposure panorama.

I remember making my sister get out of the way as I was taking each shot, but now that I look back on it, I wish I had included her. There are so many other people in the shot, what would one more have hurt? It would have been great to have her there, since just about all of our shipmates are captured here.

This was taken on Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos, just after we met this guy:

UPDATE: I think my memory from five years ago failed me. It looks like you can see my sister. She’s sitting on a yellow towel and drinking from a bottle of water almost dead center in the picture.

Happy Memorial Day

We just got back into town from visiting our friends Brian and Melissa in Chicago. We had a great time up there. The only real activities we did were a trip to Ikea and a party with some of their neighbors on Saturday night. The rest of the time we were just able to relax and catch up.

We took the new car and didn’t have any problems. It rides really well and we had plenty of room to put all of our new stuff from Ikea. Amy liked the drop-down center console; it made it easy for her to get into the back seat to feed Ava.

I had a lot of fun taking pictures of the kids. We were all outside just before sunset on Sunday night. The girls were on the playset and we set up the bubble blowing machines for Ava. The lighting was perfect and I think I got some pretty good shots.

Back from Hawaii

Hula DancerWe’ve just returned from a vacation in Hawaii. We had an absolute blast!

It all started with a fare sale from Delta, which planted the seed in our minds. We did a lot of research and ended up going through Costco travel. In the end, Delta’s marketing ended up with us buying tickets on United.

We spent two nights at the Hyatt in Waikiki and then 6 nights at the Hyatt on Maui. Honolulu isn’t a great place to vacation – at least if you’re an American – but it’s one of those places we just have to experience. We both liked Maui a lot better.

We were there for the big 6.7 earthquake. It didn’t do any major damage on Maui. In fact, I looked hard to find something to take a picture of as proof, and all I could come up with was a “closed due to earthquake damage” sign at a small shop in Lahaina. They didn’t even have major damage, just a few glass trinkets that had rattled off the shelves. In all, the power was out at the resort for about three hours, but we’d planned to be at the pool anyway, so it didn’t really put a damper on our plans.

I’ll post more about our trip later. In the meantime, enjoy the photos!
